Home » The Next Web: VC Jeff Clavier

Jeff Clavier is a succesfull venture capitalist with French origins.  He points out that the market for investing is much more difficult in 2007 than in 2004. Less and less talented people are available and the competion is getting much stronger. But he still invests. There are still a lot of offline inefficiences, large pockets of capital efficient oppurtunities, a lot of new platforms where content can be distributed to. Klein takes a grab in predicting the future online by defining the New Connectedness:

  • a new experience. The web as platform, a richer and shared user experience
  • multi personal identies. Create as much identies as you like on dozens of platforms.
  • personalization. The content will evolve around me: my web, my life, my life
  • automation pushed to the edge. More robots, sensors and fullfilment

Clavier states the Europe needs a new generation of venture capitalist angels. Index Ventures is on its way becoming the new Sequoia (one of the most succesfull venture capitalists in Silicon Valley). But still, European companies need to experiment more, fail more, think more global. This takes a culture shift: celebrate succes but accept failure.
