The Next Web: Silverlight and Adobe Media Player
Published by Geert Wissink June 1st, 2007 in Internet, Web 2.0
After the break we get some product presentations. The first is Microsoft Silverlight. Silverlight is a cross-browser, cross-platform plug-in for delivering the next generation of media experiences and rich interactive applications. Adobe shows Apollo, a cross-OS runtime that allows developers to leverage their existing web development skills (Flash, Flex, HTML, etc). Furthermore they extended the the Adobe Media Player (formerly known as the Flash Player) to the desktop so you can watch your favourite Youtube movies offline. And more, you can interact with your video, buy clothing you see in a movie offline. Both great products. Seems like Adobe and Microsoft head on for a big confrontation for the userbase of their mediaplayers.

Hi Geert,
Glad you enjoyed the 5 minute presentations. Just a quick note to let you know that the Adobe Media Player is not the new name for the Flash player. The Adobe Media Player is a separate application that we are building on top of the Apollo platform. So the AMP is using the Apollo runtime which brings together the use of Flash/Flex, HTML and Javascript in to one runtime.
Enjoy the rest of the conference,
Serge
Hi Geert, nice summary of the presentations. What is your opinion/ feeling so far today. What is new? How do you like the fact that the ‘company is the message’ at such an event? very open to feedback!
