The Next Web showcase: eBuddy and Mobiluck

Ebuddy provides instant messaging to all platforms for all browsers for all devices. Ebuddy can be used on mobile phones, Sony PSP’s, Nintendo’s, etc. It is a successtory, they have more than 40 million online and over 6 million mobile users. It counts up to more than 1 billion pageviews every month. The main advantage of eBuddy is that you need only one application to contact your MSN, Yahoo and AOL contacts. You can use the same interface online, on your desktop and on your mobile phone.
Next is Mobiluck which turns your mobile phone into a radar. Compare with the Marauder’s Map from Harry Potter which shows where everybody is on a map. One of the nice features is that you can pretend to be somewhere when you’re not, for example in your office. They count more than 500.000 users from 200 countries. The demo ends in somewhat of a disappointment, when trying to login into the demo on the wap page the server answers it’s got too many connections. Also the demo on the central screen doesn’t work. The software isn’t free, for 5 dollars per 3 months you get the software. I don’t know if this business-model will be savy enough to survive. One of the grumpy men who has been hired to give cynical comments notes that more telco’s are developing the same kind of applications. Time will tell if Mobiluck will succeed. Next time hopefully more luck with their presentation. See www.mobiluck.com

Certainly it was a disappointment for us that the demonstration didn’t work. However I would like to clarify here that the software for the mobile is not required to use the new WAP service which is free.
